Google Ads, formerly known as Google Adwords, is an online advertising service by Google for businesses to advertise their products and services. Google Ads is one of many pay-per-click (PPC) advertising platforms that allows businesses to create hyper-targeted advertising campaigns that position their brand right in front of their customers.
If you have ever searched for anything on Google, you would likely have noticed that certain searches deliver results with a small ‘AD’ next to the link. This is a Google Ad!
Google Ads and SEO are two different advertising techniques used to generate web traffic. However, they both use keywords or search terms on Google to target potential customers. With the introduction of Google Ads, it was stated that any business could bid for a keyword related to their business and have their ad displayed alongside search results when a user searched for certain keywords.
However, in SEO, you must work harder to meet Google’s organic (non-paid) criteria in order to rank well on the search results. Search engine optimisation therefore provides far greater long-term results than Google Ads, and can deliver very high quality traffic and leads to your website.
CPC stands for ‘Cost Per Click’, and is the amount you are charged per click on your Google Ad.
The cost of each keyword can range from as little as $0.02 to hundreds of dollars, depending on its popularity and level of competition . The more popular it is,the more bidding competition you will have for it. For example, if your keyword is ‘Chocolate Cake Recipe’, this would be a very popular keyword and the cost per click would be higher than a less competitive one such as ‘Tie Dye Shirt’
The cost to run your Google Ad campaign depends on the level of competition for keywords, the number of words in each ad, and which location you target. For example, if you are advertising in Australia, but selected UK as your ‘Target Location’, you will be charged in GBP, not AUD.
You can either choose to set a daily budget for your campaign, or set a daily maximum amount you want to spend.
PPC (Pay-Per-Click) is an advertising model used to get traffic via paid search. If you bid on keywords in Google AdWords, for example, and someone searches for that keyword on Google, your ad will appear next to the organic listings along with the ads of your competitors. But unlike SEO, you don’t need to aim for ranking high organically – instead, you just have to ensure that your ad gets clicked.
PPC works because it is based on the principles of supply and demand: an advertiser sets a maximum bid and sets daily spending limits to control costs; then, when users search Google, AdWords selects which ads to show based on how muchadvertisers are willing to pay for each click.
